Don’t Forget to Lodge a Temporary Event Notice for the Super Bowl 2025

13th January 2025

Eleanor Jordan, Solicitor

As we enter the New Year, it’s time to start thinking about how you might use your annual Temporary Event Notice allowance. A premises can have up to 15 separate TENs per year, covering up to a total of 21 days, so it’s certainly worth considering now how you will use your TEN allowance effectively.

With this in mind, first up in the calendar is the Super Bowl which will take place on Sunday 9 February 2025 with kick-off scheduled for 11.30pm UK time.  With the match not expected to wrap up until around 3.30am in the early hours of Monday morning, most licences will need to be extended to allow them to stay open and serve drinks.

You can also use this TEN to maximise on the Super Bowl trade in other ways, including temporarily licensing an unlicensed part of your premises so that you can welcome more customers to watch the game perhaps. You could also use the TEN to add additional licensable activities to your premises licence so that customers can enjoy different types of entertainment throughout the evening.

It’s important to remember that requests for ‘ordinary’ TENs must be submitted at least 10 clear working days before the event. This means you must lodge an ordinary TEN for the Super Bowl no later than Friday 24 January 2025.

It is also possible to lodge a ‘late’ TEN 5 clear working days prior to the event, but don’t forget that if there is a counter notice to the late TEN, there is no scope for a hearing, and it will be automatically rejected. The deadline for a late TEN for the Super Bowl this year will be Friday 31 January 2025.
